About Us
Annually, parents/caregivers spend anywhere from $600-$800 annually on diapers alone. That is not even factoring in the cost of supplies like wipes, diaper rash prevention creams, powders, special-scented bags for disposal, and also for special receptacles to place the diapers in.
There are two reasons that stand out when I myself, as well as couples I have heard from state the reason why they do not have any more children. There are: the cost of raising a child is so much (hospital delivery charge - even when covered by insurance, diapers, formula, baby sitter and preschool costs, etc.), as well as having to potty train their child is a nightmare.
With the help of my parents who watched my eldest son until he was able to go to preschool, we were able to potty train him by the time he was 3; which was the age the preschool allowed students to start. He was not perfect, but he was able to attend a preschool that required him to be potty-trained. He did have many potty accidents in the beginning of his preschool career, but by 4 months of preschool, we were accident free. Fortunately for us, his preschool did not kick him out because of his potty accidents. I did not admit him to other preschools in the area because of their consequences of potty accidents. One school stated that if a child had 3 accidents in the first week of their starting date, they would be put on probation. Other preschools charged parents an extra monthly fee if their child was not trained, and was in pull-ups or diapers.
My parents and I were only able to be successful with potty training because of all the bribes we made with my son. They ranged from food bribes (ice cream snacks, happy meals, chocolate milk instead of white milk, candy, etc.) to toy bribes (the most expensive toy being an $85 Bumblebee Transformer toy). This can be a problem due to the cost of things, nutritional value, as well as the fact that in many cases, we did not have the item(s) on hand at that moment. Of course we tried the easier and cheaper incentives like positive reinforcement with verbal praise and charts and stickers, but it did not 'grab' his attention well enough to keep him interested in the area of being toilet trained. We began potty training him a little before he turned two years old. It took over a year of bribes to be successful.
After that experience with my first child, I started thinking of how to go about toilet training my second son - what age to start, how to go about training him, etc. My second son is almost 3 years younger than my first. I knew there had to be an easier and less expensive way to go about things - I just had to figure it out.
While talking to a girlfriend about her 'positive' home-pregnancy test, I thought of a wonderful idea that would help parents in the area of toilet training their children. That was how my 'Wee-N-See' Toilet-Training Aid idea started.
